Griha Pravesh Pooja – Meaning and significance

Griha Pravesh Pooja signifies the official entry into a new home, performed in the presence of gods and goddesses, accompanied by elaborate pooja and Havan. No new beginnings in Hinduism are undertaken without performing pooja and Havan. It is deeply rooted in Hindu customs. All family members gather to celebrate the entry into the new home in the presence of deities. Griha Pravesh Pooja involves a series of steps that can vary across different cultures and traditions. Deities are invoked to seek divine blessings and to ward off any adverse effects that a new house might bring. Many experienced Pandit ji are providing Griha Pravesh Pooja in all locations of Noida. Apart from this, many Pooja service providers provide online Griha Pravesh Pooja in Noida by their experienced Pandit ji with all Pooja materials.

There are many religious, spiritual, and emotional benefits associated with this pooja. When we trace its roots, Rishi Vishveshwar performed the Griha Pravesh Pooja of Lanka, and another story is that Maharishi Grag Rishi performed the Griha Pravesh Pooja for the palace of Arjuna, which was built in the city of Indraprastha. Today, Indraprastha is called Delhi.

Just as our human body is lifeless without a soul, a house, which is a concrete structure of walls and pillars, is lifeless without Griha Pravesh Pooja. By the proper chanting of mantras, a well-trained and experienced pandit instils prana, or life-force, into the new home and makes it energetically alive.

Significance Of Griha Pravesh Pooja

This Pooja offers spiritual and emotional upliftment to all family members. Hindus believe that any new beginnings in the presence of gods and goddesses will reduce negative influences from the space and make it suitable for living well. In astrology, it is believed that moving to new locations can have planetary and Vastu-related effects on the lives of all family members. Therefore, Nav Graha and Vastu Pooja are also included in this ceremony.

1. Vitality in the atmosphere: It is believed that, just as a human body is lifeless without the soul, a home is lifeless without Griha Pravesh pooja, as it infuses life into the concrete structure to bring it alive. Griha Pravesh pooja imbues the new dwelling with a soul through the proper chanting of Vedic mantras.

2. Purification: This pooja clears away all negative influences, transforming the new home into a space filled with positive energy. It also purifies the mental space of family members, allowing room for positive thinking.

3. Bundle of Blessings: By correctly chanting Vedic mantras, family members receive blessings from heavenly bodies.

4. Good Health and Well-being: This pooja, with properly chanted Vedic mantras, encourages a calm mind, thereby fostering good health and well-being among family members.

5. Wealth and Prosperity: When the pooja is performed with proper chanting of Vedic mantras, all negative influences are entirely removed. This paves the way for wealth and prosperity.

Types of Griha Pravesh Pooja – Apoorva, Sapoorva, Dwandwa

There are mainly three types of Griha Pravesh — Apoorva, Sapoorva, and Dwandwa. Most people opt for Apoorva and Dwandwa, with very few choosing Sapoorva. In all three types of Griha Pravesh, the pooja rituals are mostly the same, but the muhuratam plays a significant role.

Apoorva: It is mainly done when a new house is constructed. It can also be understood from the name itself.

Sapoorva: It is done when family members are not staying in the house for a long time.

Dwandwa: When family members move into a rented house, apartment, or flat, this type of Griha Pravesh is conducted.

Preparations and Procedures:

1. Cleaning the Area: The Pooja procedure begins with cleaning the home and the pooja space. Ganga Jal is sprinkled all over the area after cleaning is finished.

2. Kalash-Ganpati Pooja: The ceremony begins with Gauri-Ganesh and Kalash Pooja. In Hinduism, any Pooja typically starts with these rituals. Gauri and Ganesh are invoked first to be present throughout the entire pooja.

3. Nav-Grah Pooja: Following the above Poojas, Nav-Graha, the nine planetary deities, are invoked to be present throughout the entire ceremony. This pooja alleviates the adverse effects of all nine planets that can obstruct the progress of individuals.
