Can daughters do Pind Daan?
Traditionally, daughters were not permitted to perform Pind Daan; however, with the evolution of Hindu beliefs and some Puranic references that do not prohibit women from offering Pind Daan, women can now perform Pind Daan for their ancestors. Previously, the eldest son was allowed to carry out the rituals, reflecting a more male-dominated society, and women were only permitted to attend to household chores and care for children. Nowadays, women are even allowed to visit popular places for performing Shradh rites, such as Varanasi, Gaya, Allahabad, and Haridwar. A general acceptance of women can now be observed everywhere, which was a rare sight in the olden days.
