Below are the details for various types of Pind Daan:
1. Basic Pind Daan: This is the regular Pind Daan, usually performed with three rice or wheat balls along with other items. Pind Daan in Haridwar typically costs between ₹3,100 and ₹5,100, which includes one pandit and all necessary pooja materials.
2. Tripindi Shradh Pooja: In this type of Pind Daan, three kalash—Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh—are used. Brahm Sukta, Purush Sukta, and Rudra Sukta are chanted, followed by offering Pindas made of rice or wheat flour. Brahmins are fed after the Pooja.
3. Narayan Bali Shradh Pooja: In this type of Pind Daan, five Kalash — Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Pret, and Yam — are present. Brahm Sukta, Purush Sukta, Rudra Sukta, Pret Sukta, and Yam Sukta are chanted, followed by offering sixteen Pindas made from rice or wheat flour. It concludes with a Havan and feeding the brahmins.
There are mainly three types of Pind Daan. However, a few others, which are generally known, are Parvan Shradh and Ekodristi Shradh, but they are not considered separate types. They are different names for the same basic Pind Daan.
