What is Mundan Sanskar and why is it important?

Mundan or Chudakaran Sanskar is the ceremony of shaving a child’s hair for the first time. It is mainly performed between the ages of 1 and 3, and in some cases, up to the age of 7. The age is determined according to the customs and beliefs of the family. It is believed that shaving a child’s head removes leftover karmas from past lives and gives the child a fresh start. It is also thought that shaving the head will eliminate any infections or impurities a child may have contracted from the mother during pregnancy. Overall, Mundan Sanskar is regarded as very significant in Hinduism among all the sixteen sanskaras.
