What is Pind Daan?

What is Pind Daan?

Pind Daan is an act of paying homage to our ancestors. Rice and wheat balls are prepared, called Pindas. They represent the body of the deceased, with the round shape symbolising the soul. Rice and wheat are chosen because both have been essential parts of our diets for centuries. They provide vital energy required for sustenance in the afterlife. Black sesame and barley represent protection and purification. These are mixed with water and poured over the Pindas, symbolising the body of the deceased. The entire process offers the deceased the necessary energy and peace in the afterlife.
